Research Interests
Dr. Chen’s main research interests include virulence regulation and drug resistance in Staphylococcus aureus. Current focus is on the regulation of virulence genes by a quorum sensing system. Quorum sensing is one particular form of cell-to-cell communication, in which genes are expressed in response to changes in population density. The opportunity is there for the exploitation of quorum sensing as a novel target for anti-infective therapy. It will be interesting to see this opportunity translated into clinical reality.
Research Activities & Accomplishment
Dr. Chen had studied the molecular mechanisms of fluoroquinolone reduced susceptibility in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae and has published some research articles about this issue.
